As Fox&Bee, we were away filming last week in Castlegar. It gave us a great opportunity to explore the southern boundary of the province and pick up a few ideas for future podcasts!
And, because we were in Castlegar, it was only 30 minutes up the road to the picturesque town of Nelson, where we had discovered a fantastic meal when we drove through last June. The historic Hume Hotel is over 115 years old, and in that time, it has perfected a delicious pizza called ‘Forest Floor’: a savoury mix of pine nuts, shimenji mushrooms, truffle oil, and buffalo mozzarella. SO GOOD! To finish the meal, we devoured salted chocolate cookies from the Kootenay Bakery Cafe, which are so good that you’re compelled to close your eyes and hum with every bite.
Yes, it’s difficult to continue a conversation when you’re all eating those cookies, but they are best savoured in blissful silence.
Of course, you may have your own opinion on the matter, but I declare the Forest Floor to be the best pizza in the world. I only wish it was a little closer than a 10 hour drive and a ferry ride away. 🙂
